applying transitions - problems

Hi,

I have Premeier 6.02. I can apply the cross dissolve transition no problem, but when I try to apply any of the other transitions like additive dissolve they dont seem to work.
Cross dissolve is the only effect that I can successfully apply, and I am achieving this by dragging the transition to the transition line under the cut between the two clips in question, in the timeline.
When I double click the transition, and click on "show actual source" I can see both clips appearing in place of A and B.
When I try this same method with any of the other transitions (namely additive dissolve) I can only see one of the clips in place of A and a black frame in place of B (or the other way around). When I go to preview it, the effect doesn't appear to work at all.

Can anyone please help me with this?

Hi Orla,

If you hold the ALT key down and then click on the timeline to place the timeline marker over various places in your transition, do you see the preview correctly, showing the transition-in-progress?

You have one clip in Video 1A and one clip in Video 1B? Do they overlap, with the transition neatly covering the overlap?

No, thats not the way I was doing it. I had both clips on Video 1A. I tried it your way, and it works.
I feel a bit thick now!
