I just found out you have to reapply your SP with every change to the server. My question is, Do you have to reboot after your change, then apply the SP and reboot again or can you decline the reboot until after you apply the SP and then reboot?
John Durbin

I have been applying the changes on a server, then SP, then rebooting alltogether - in most cases that's enough. However, keep in mind the following: when you're talking about the "changes" - some of them will not complete until you reboot.

Now, here's the issue - you're applying the SP to change the system files to a different version. If the changes you do change all the files before reboot - you're cool. Otherwise - you might ran into problem if a simultaneous change attempted from your installed application(s) and SP.

BTW, not all of the changes require SP rerun - only the ones changing the system files/dlls - mainly new hardware/software installs, not regular maintenance or configuration changes.

Regards!

I would caution you even more strongly than voland. Since you're never really sure what changes require the reboot to finish their reconfiguration (for example: a system file cannot be replaced while in use, so the replacement is scheduled to run at reboot.)

If you really want to be safe, I would recommend making your changes, completing the reboot, applying the SP and rebooting again.
Jeff
masterracker@hotmail.com

Of all the things I've lost in life, I miss my mind the most ...
