Hi there.

It is easy enough to apply a video effect to a clip, but how does one apply the effect over time? For example, at the start of the clip, blur 0, then at the end, blur 50, so that is gradually blurs.

I am using a jpg in this case, stretched over the timeline.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful!

thanks much!

Increase the duration of the effect to however long you want it to take to reach blur 50.

okay,

drop the blur onto the clip you want to effect. then if you look over on the left side of the video track that the clip is in you'll see a little triangle pointing at the name of the video track. Click the triangle and it will expand the view of that track on the time line. Then if the clip you are editing isn't already selected, select it.

To apply the effect over time you use keyframing. basicly you set a "keyframe" where you want the effect to start, and where you want it to end. You give it a start value, ie 0 then you give it a finishing value ie 50, then premiere figures out everything in the middle. so here is how to set up your key frames

Move the playhead to the frame in the clip where you want the effect to begin.

now look back over under the video track name. you will see a little box with triangles on either side of it. click the box. that adds a keyframe at the playhead on the timeline. then give that clip a value in the effects control window, do the same thing for where you want the effect to reach its bluriest. if you drag the playhead between the clips you should see the number go up or down between the initial and final values.

Then all you have to do is render the video and you are set
