Having a bit of a problem with XP sp2...

When I try to run various XP programs ( MMC, Calc, Defrag...etc) I get a popup window saying that there's an application error with the program

example mmc.exe : application error

any clue or help would be appriciated..thanks
 
Do any of those programs run from Safe Mode, or from Normal Mode if launched by a different user?

Are there any clues in your Event Viewer?

Can you run any programs without the error occurring?

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

Thanks for the help. After going thru the process of elimination from your recommendations. It turned out that Adobe Acrobat 8 was playing havoc with my XP. Once I uninstalled, all was well in the world...thanks
