applications opening unaided

I have windows xp and every day word, access, powerpoint
opens without warning - can you help?

Does this happen when you click on files in Explorer, or just spontaneously the programs start running?

No they open regardless of explorer.

At startup, or just in the middle of doing something?

During the day if I am away from my desk when I come back one or two have opened spontaneously.

Do two things and see if you discover something important about this issue.

. Use a trial period antitrojan/spyware/malware scanner. My recommendation of the month is Giant Antispyware:

. I also recommend A2 and Eiwodo in faq608-4650 But you only need one good one.

. If no joy, do the steps manually discussed in faq608-4650

Is this a corporate environment? Could be some tech's might be having a bit a fun with you and have installed a backdoor trojan. This happened to my buddy at work from the software team. He wasn't happy but I was quite amused, watching him try to wrestle control of his own mouse was hilarious.

Sounds like a virus but if it comes out clean this is really weird unless you have scheduled tasks running in the control panel which would place a shortcut by your clock. Is it just certain times or random?
