Some applications or DOS commands are not running on my NT 4.0 server, for example: edit.com, command.com, inetmgr.exe. When I try to run any of them from the DOS prompt:
For example:
C:\edit
I get the following message: "The system cannon find the file C:\WINNT\system32\edit.com."
and this is happening with the other commands referred above. I have reinstalled those files but had no luck and I do not want to reinstall the whole system.

Does anybody have any idea if this would be a problem with a dll file, a registry problem or any other reason?

Any help will be highly appreciated

Is this the first time you have had this issue? Have you recently installed, changed, modified anything? If you havent done anything I am not certain how it would get corrupted, however have you tried going to your %systemroot%\System32 folder and running the command.com and edit.com?

A long shot might be the file type association if you try to open it from the systemroot\system32 folder and it tries opening it up with something other than a dos window you could look there.

Lastly you said that you have reinstalled - were they replaced (newer version or same version?) or were they not there and you put them back there?

Sorry I couldnt be of more help.
