I've recently made the change to a .chm Help format.

My application does a "SET HELP" upon initialization and has a Help menu option that simply issues a "HELP" command.

This works fine in the development environment.

It also works fine in an installed copy of the applicaiton on the development machine.

However, the menu will NOT launch Help on installed copies to OTHER machines.

Those other machines, however, also have a shortcut to the help file. The shortcuts work fine.

I've checked and rechecked for silly mistakes like spelling errors and making sure that the correct help file is indeed installed with the application. Everything seems fine.

Obviously my development machine has VFP on it, but I can't see where that is even a factor in this problem.

One other possibility is that the other machines I've installed to are running XP Service Pack 2. Since the .chm file uses Explorer, is there a setting I should be looking for?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Ron,

SP2 prevents .chm files coming off a network resource. Also %windir% has to have hh.exe in it.

Mike

The problem you have indicates that the help support files have not been included in your setup disk. Have you included the help support files in your installation setup? In VFP8 the support files are :

1. foxhhelp8.exe and
2. foxhhelpps8.dll

Include these files (or their equivalent based upon which version of VFP you are using) and then help should work.

I concur with mm0000, that would be the first thing I would check - common mistake most of us have made at one point or another.

Not sure what version of VFP you are using, but I had the same issue with VFP6. Take a look at thread184-474441.

Hope it's of some help (no pun intended)!

Neil

I like work. It fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours...
