I've noticed several of my backups drop into a pending state with the error message of "Application Problem." How vauge is that? Anyone have a suggestion on how to uncover some more data on why my backups are failing?

Check the logs on the client. Sometimes they can give you some useful info.

It did indeed. However I worked with David Langley at CommVault and he told me that "Application Problem" almost always means connectivity issues. Sure enough DNS problems were plauging my backups. Also using the Data Interface Pairs Tool we were able to reconfigure the commucations between some of the trouble servers and my Media Agents. So... hope this helps anyone who comes here for answers.

when you setup the data interface pair, check the drop down list if it shows more than 1 entries. If the DIP using interface name does not work, try specifying IP adress instead.

I am having the same issue, ane when i go to set up the DIP it isn't giving me the CommServe as an option. I am wanting to set up a DIP between the CommServe and the MA using IP instead of name.

Any ideas?

Hi,

1.) Check the network performance (full duplex?)
2.) Check forward and reverse resolving (dns)
3.) Multiple network adapters? check your binding order
4.) Create data interface pair and "just" enter IP adresses in the wizard, instead of hostnames.

Regards,

Marcel
