you are correct. Safari won't take parameters.

I tried running from Start-Run:
C:\Program Files\Safari\safari.exe c:\somefile.html

And Safari just ignores it. It just opens the configured page.

I also tried giving it a URL:

C:\Program Files\Safari\safari.exe and nothing.

That would be a good feature to add for the final version.

Still for a Beta its pretty good.

Here is how you pass URLs to Safari in Windows:
Code:
C:\Program Files\Safari\safari.exe -url [URL unfurl="true"]http://www.tek-tips.com[/URL]
On another note... visit a text rich site and use the built-in find command (Apple-F or Control-F depending on your OS)... and check out the nice way they show matching words! Very nice work Apple.

Cheers,
Jeff

Yeah, they dim the whole page, and highlight the search term all over the page. Very cool.

Ohh yea the -url works, but I'd like to know what other command line switches its got.

Hi

Thank you Jeff. That works quite good and ConTEXT now opens the edited page with Safari with just one key press.

But I would prefer to have it in a new tab of the existing Safari window. [pig] If you know the solution for that too, please share it with us. My googling for "safari command line parameter|argument|option" did not helped so far.

Feherke.

Safari has some nice developer tools, as I just found out the other day...

If you right click on any element on a page, there is a menu item called "Inspect Element"... which brings up a "MacOSX Dashboard-like" widget giving you access to all kinds of DOM information.

It's no Firebug, though :(

Cheers,
Jeff

It seems that many of it's problems occur with Non-US users, but that's no suprise, it happens with nearly every bit of software :-(

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.

The 2nd bug I reported above seems to have been fixed in Safari 3.0.2

1DMF, do you mean you're finding Safari slow to boot up as a program OR Safari is slow to load web pages?

BOTH!

I've only used Safari briefly on this shoddy PC I have here, but it seemed zippy enough.

Hi

Yep, my Safari is also quite fast. In case of slowing down, I would suspect the operating system.

1DMF, if that is not the latest Safari version, I would try installing a newer one.

actually its just updated itself ;-)

though why does it keep trying to shove iTunes down my throat, and bundles it with quick time ?

I don't do iTunes and don't have an iPod, can I stop this somewhere?

And can I keep quick time up-to-date seperate from this iTunes bundled update.

Hi

Updated itself ? [surprise] Hmm... I do not have neither updates nor anything mentioning iTunes, but I can not remember any option I disabled for them.

either was it's still SOOOO SLOOOOOW , I would never use it as a browser, purely for testing.

My PC at work isn't exactly slow either P4 2.6ghz, 512MB Ram, ATI Radeon 7000 AGP x4

Shouldn't be this slow!

512Mb RAM?! I think you need to get the company shell out a few pennies for some much needed RAM... then you will notice a serious improvement! Max you can run that machine is 2Gb I believe.

Jeff

i just did, we used to only have 256!

There is no way the boss will pay anymore money for ram.

1GB is not required to run office & IE , so neither should it be required to run safari!
