Appian typhoon dualhead - problems with WMP

I have an appian typhoon graphics board driving two viewsonic vg191b monitors, on a fairly standard Dell machine running windows 2000 Pro. The displays work well, but on many occasions, when I double-click on a graphics file, usually an AVI, but it can be an MPG, Windows Media player (version 9.00.00.3250) will be unable to play the video portion of the file, and the soundtrack will begin, but either WMP will show random graphics (as it does during playing audio-only), or a message box will show that there is an error. 'More information' indicates that WMP guesses that the video board deos not have the correct drivers installed, or is disabled. I know that the video files are OK, as I can run them from inside Adobe Premiere. This problem is not consistent, and it may be possible to play all kinds of files, or suddenly to encounter the problem. Re-booting usually improves things for a time. The drivers installed for the graphics board are circa 2002, and I cannot find any newer ones.

Any suggestions most welcome.

Did you try older drivers?

I am using the only drivers I've had - they came with the board.

Playing video files involves different hardware in the graphics chips, than the one involved in the graphics themselves.

If I recall correctly this card uses two Radeon 7000 chips. I doubt that this technology has been fully validated with DirectX 9.0 and the last Media Player.

Ski asked the right question. I may add to try using older versions of Media Player and Direct X.

If it is a real annoyance, you may want to use a more recent video card. Most of them can drive two displays with a single controller, which is less likely to cause problems.
