I want to append a memo field from a text file that has just been created in the program...

chart-space(6)
get chart
report form.... to file &chart
use temp
append memo notes from....?
I have tried... &chart
I tried... &chart.txt

No deal. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for your consideration.

Philka:

You have two ways to apply the macro substitution for these cases:

1. append memo notes from &char..txt (two dots!)
2. append memo notes from (char+'.txt')

Try and let us know! :)

When APPENDING MEMO from <file> you must use the file's name and extension.

Why give the user a chance to crash the program with a bad file name. Hard code the filename unless there is some reason for it you are not telling us.

lcFile = "C:\CHART.TXT"
report form.... to file (lcFile)
use temp
append memo notes from (lcFile)

or

report form.... to file C:\CHART.TXT
use temp
append memo notes from C:\CHART.TXT

I tried what David Toranzo suggested, since I need to
use macro substitution (needed dynamic quality). It
worked! Thanks so much for your thought and time. In
fact, all those who responded, I truly appreciate it.
