Append query adds square brackets (Then complains)

When I use access to create an append query it matches the field names it can and has square brackets around them then it complains it can't find the field name until I go through all the fields and remove the square brackets. Needless to say this is a pain. Is there a way to stop this behavior? I can't change the field names because they are sent to another entity that requires these exact names. Thanks for any help you can give me.
