Hey, folks!

I'm trying to use an append query to mimic the Default Value functionality in Design View. Thus far, I'm not having much luck.

I've got a form for each month (Jan. - Dec.). Each references the same table. Each month, a new record is added to the table via the months corresponding form. I'm trying to take two fields from the previous month's record and apply them to the next month's record. Default would work fine, but I've got an autonumber in there. I think it's hosing me up.

Does anyone know of a way to get around this?

Thanks so much!

MikeLoon,

Thanks for the response! Sorry 'bout the vague post. I was at work and didn't have the db handy for specifics. Unfortunately, I have had a bit too much to drink this evening to delve into detail. I'll load the db and provide more info tomorrow. I'd certainly appreciate your assistance!

In brief, the field(s) which I'm attempting to place default values in are all comboboxes. These comboboxes correspond to autonumber fields (PK's). I found this excerpt from Help - hence, the synopsis.

"The DefaultValue property applies to all table fields except those fields with the data type of AutoNumber or OLE Object."

I may scrap the autonumber keys altogether. Any thoughts are welcome.

Thanks!

Are you trying to assign a default value to an auto number field?

MikeLoon,

Well, my combobox was indeed linked to an autonumber PK. I guess that's where I went arye. Basically, I was trying to copy January's values to February - in essence, setting a default for February records.

I think I've figured out a few ways around this. Thanks so much for your prompt responses! If you do have a good idea for me, though, feel free to share it.
