App Server SMTP Gmail 3

Setting up a demo App Server here at our office and I'm having an issue sending VM to Email using Gmail. Under Voicemail Pro - System Preferences, SMTP Sender, I have the following information entered, Mail Domain and Mail Server set to smtp.gmail.com, port 587, authentication required and valid user name and password entered. I'm getting "Connection to SMTP server is successful" when I run the test connection and the same info is entered in our Windows 11.0 demo system and it worked correctly. Am I missing something with the App Server setting? Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Malibu,

I have managed to get vm to email with Gmail working on embedded vm and pro vm. So hopefully I can help you out here.

The embedded voicemail works with smtp.gmail.com but only because it has the Use STARTTLS option. VM Pro does not have this option and I have never been able to get VM Pro to work with smtp.gmail.com. And while this SMTP tab still exists in systems running VM pro it doesn't work for VM to email.

What does work for VM Pro is utilizing the G Suite SMTP server with IP authentication only. The drawback being you need to have a G Suite account which is Google's paid for business software suite.
If you can use G Suite then your settings will be: mail server smtp-relay.gmail.com port 25 or 465, server requires authentication turned off.

Go to advanced G Suite Gmail settings:

Then in G Suite you need to configure your SMTP relay service settings see picture below:

1. only addresses in my domain
2. check only accept mail from specified IP addresses (this is the IP authentication part)

uncheck require SMTP authentication​

3. uncheck TLS encryption

This setup works for me I hope it works for you.

It works with app server not windows. Also, you can get free smtp relay. Vmpro can send the emails to and the relay will send it to gmail.

You might have to enable less secure apps in Gmail
