Hi, this morning apache was stop on my developpement server. I am the only one that got acces to that machine, its on an intranet so its sertenly havent been hacked. So apache is stopped and

/usr/sbin/apachectl start
/usr/sbin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started

/usr/sbin/apachectl configtest
Syntax OK

i also checked /var/log/httpd/error_log and i havent found nothing helpfull there.

i dont know what to do... i event dont know where to start.

i havent done any configuration one my server till weeks i even tryed to reboot it. (guess ist desease bill gave me)

i emptyed

/var/log/httpd/error_log

then tried to start apache. But error_log still contains nothing! is tehere an other error_log??

You can have myriad log files with Apache. I have separate error and access logfiles for each virtual server on the system. Examine httpd.conf.

If the logfile /var/ does not exist, then Apache will try to create it. If it cannot, it is because the directory /var/ does not exist or because Apache does not write permissions to the directory.
