Hi
I've installed Apache 1.3.24 on my OpenBSD 3.1 box. I used the binarie install for openbsd from apache ........... everything installed great and i can see the default page of apache. So i made the changes to the httpd.conf file to reflect my setup.

Now my problem i edit the /usr/local/apache/htdocs/index.html file so i can post the "Site under construction" html file i did ............. but when i connect back to the webserver it never updates the page i always get the default apache page.

What am i doing wrong .......... or ........ what did i forget to do??

i also restarted the httpd deamon and it doesn't change anything.

In your httpd.conf file you should see a Directive called DocumentRoot. It should contain the path to the directory where your webpages will go. I sounds like the file you are editing and the path to your DocumentRoot are not the same. If this is not the case then your browser has cached the page. Just do a refresh (reload?) and you should see the new page.

thanks but i already tryed that before and it didn't do anything ...... always the same test page.

I don't know what else to try and i don't want to go back to running a IIS server on the network.

like always ................. tried doing it different ways to. stop the httpd server then do the changes and then start it again also didn't do anything

Are you sure you are editing the right httpd.conf? Try putting some garbage in there and see if Apache complains when you restart it. If not, you are editing the wrong one. //Daniel

Are you still using the default DocumentRoot? If so, did you delete the original index.html or just rename it? If you renamed it, what did you change it to? If you just changed it to index.htm, then it may be shown before index.html depending on if .htm comes before .html in your DirectoryIndex list. Here is what mine looks like:

DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.shtml index.php index.php4 index.php3 index.phtml index.cgi

If you are using a new DocumentRoot, then apache isn't seeing the change you made to httpd.conf. This can be because apache isn't being shutdown and restarted or you have tried to change where httpd looks for its config file put is still reading the original. There is an outside chance that another instance of apache is running and you are not seeing the error when you restart. The error may be entered into your logs so you may want to look at them. If all else fails, reboot the whole system and clear your browser's cache before goint to your web page. If none of this helps, then I'm sorry to say, I can't help you cuz what you got is spooks. :)

This is just to wierd .............. i've looked over everything 5+ times and i still can't see what i've done wrong that's if i done something wrong ...........

ok some new stuff "wierd" i re-installed apache 1.3.14 binarie distribution for my OpenBSD box. installed perfect no errors. then i went in the /usr/local/apache directory for some testing.:

1. went in /htdocs deleted everything except the index.html file that i modifided with a few F words and the apache.gif file.
2. went in /conf to look at httpd.conf but made no changes.
3. went in /bin to execute apachectl ......... that started with no errors.
4. went to my winblows 2K box powered up netscape and to my F**king surprise the default apache index file comes up.
5. so flushed the cache file in netscape closed it , power netscape back up and still the same.............

this is just to WIERD......

SPOOKS!! We are definitely talking spooks here. Delete the "possessed" index.html all together and put your own. If the test page pops up this time, We have a phantom in our midst. This could be from an install from bygone days. Did you completely remove the old version before installing this one. Did the older version use the same directories? If not, are the old ones still there. How do you access your page? You should be able to type localhost in the browser of the machine that has apache and you should see your page. From the win box, you should be able to type the machine name of the server box or its ip and see that same page.
