I have the phpdev kit (apache/php/mysql/perl) up and running on my win XP box (i know its not the best but im just experimenting) I also have ubb running on it aswell, all is fine for a while but then all of a sudden apache and my sql bomb out and crash coming up with the usual error in xp - asking if I want to report to microsoft, i click no and try and restart both of them.
It seems to happen when a new user registers on the ubb and it tries to connect to the mysql db, that produces this error to the client in their browser:

'Warning: Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (10061) in c:\phpdev\ on line 32

There seems to have been a slight problem with the database.
Please try again by pressing the refresh button in your browser.

An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, who you can also contact if the problem persists.

We apologise for any inconvenience.'

Then have to reboot virtualy every time!! :-(
Some times when I drop my firewall this eleviates matters, but not always.
Can anyone help me solve this ??
Also, I'm suspecting my firewall is playing a part in this, so does anyone know what ports need to be open for apache/mysql/ubb to able to run ok??

Any help is appreciated, I know this is probably in the wrong forum but i'm hoping there may be something with apache that i can sort out.

Thanx

If this ONLY happens when a new user creates an account for your board, then I don't think it's a firewall problem. But just in case,) the port number is 3306 and should be open to tcp and udp traffic. When you set up your board, you entered your user name, password, server name and database name in the config file. You must also set the permissions and privileges for them in mysql so the can create and modify tables. Rather than walk you through all this by hand, you can pick up a GUI to admin mysql. I'm sure they have a windows version at . Did you change your host name or edit the users just before you started getting this problem? Keep us posted. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply RhythmAce :) This is really weird! I just started up the board and services, and I could browse the board fine (firewall up) then I went to add a member and it bombed out when I went to submit. So I took down my firewall, clicked back in the browser, tried again and it worked. After some testing of it I have now found the following: (really strange)
Whether the firewall is up or down now, when I register a new user, it bombs out but mysql and apache, BUT, if I restart the services and click back in my browser and try again, it works(registers).
BUT, if I open up a new browser window and try to register from scratch, it bombs out????
It looks like as you guessed-the firewall isn't really effecting it, but something is definatly causing them to bomb out??

Any idea's??

Thanks for the help

What firewall is it btw? I've had nothing but problems with software based firewalls personally. ZoneAlarm and Norton both caused strange errors, freezes, and blue screens in conjunction with different apps. How are you disabling the firewall? Stopping the service completely or just opening up access but leaving it running? I recomend trying it with the services off. ZA for instance installs 2 services that run even when it's off.
I haven't run MySQL with anything other than apache 1.3.x's either, but I don't think that should be a problem.

Its the latest version of Norton firewall and mysql. Sometimes it seems to be firewall related, othertimes not.
I'm wondering whether its related to resolving the dns, as im on a dynamic client, and the httpd.conf refers to localhost for the most part-should I change this to my dynamic name?? i.e 127.0.0.1 - xxx.dns2go.com ?? Will this knacker up my config file??

Cheers
