AOL DSL Bypass

The search was down, so I couldn't see if anyone had asked this before.

I have AOL DSL through the Westell Wirespeed DSL Modem.
I play ALOT of online gaming, in which A lag-free environment is key to sucess. I need to know if there is anyway to bypass having to use AOL to acess DSL. If there was a generic program or something else simple, that would be perfect.

manarth is correct, you are stuffed.

But if it makes you feel any better, in most areas the various IPs are just leasing the lines anyway for a single carrier. (Its not like there are multiple service lines from different IPs running to your local Central Office).

So, even if you changed ISPs, you will get the same provisioning at your local office. If it lagged before it will lag again.

You might try working with AOL/DSL to see if the lags can be reduced.

alas, AOL does have extra lag &quot;built in&quot; - proxy servers, etc.

try a &quot;tracert&quot; command to see where the lag is - if it is between AOL's servers I don't know how you could bypass it.

I have found that the server-side lag is not the problem (this is only with Battlefield 1942 [I hope you all know what it is] it is a First-Person-Shooter, but I expeirience Client-side lag in the form of &quot;warping, Head banging&quot; in which I ill be walking forward, and then I will &quot;jump&quot; forward. I think that what is happening is maybe the input from the Keyboard and mouse is being &quot;caught&quot; by the game as being incorrect and then forced to correct and what I get is this &quot;warping&quot; lag

P.S. this is even while I'm playing off-line
P.P.S. I made up the terms &quot;Head banging lag&quot; and &quot;warping lag&quot; so don't be looking for more info on it.
This should be in a different forum, but I didn't feel like registering.

so probably not packet loss then good suggestion tho'!

I'd make sure all the game updates are applied, then take a look at the game's homepage for further info.

Bah your right, my reading skills are sadly lacking so early in the day

I too play BF194 and have occasionally been flying along, when suddenly there is a slight pause and then I am 30 foot ahead of where I was before. My mate gets it aswell, I would put it down to Computer power lacking but the machines are twice the spec needed to play the game, and its silky smooth.

Maybe a game bug ?

I doubt it. My computer is also superior compared to the suggested specs.
This really only happens on BF1942.
