About a year ago I bought Nero 6 Ultimate Edition online for burning DVDs for storage and converting my CD collection to mp3 format. Since then I had to reformat my computer and I lost my registration info. I have tried to contact Nero about this for almost three months now without one reply. To convert audio files off a CD you need a mp3 filter/plug-in and Nero charges for these plug-ins.

With my faith in Nero customer support rapidly disappearing I was wondering if anyone here had any previous experience with Nero (like me) and if anyone can recommend another burning/converting program (other than Nero)?

Thanks.

Ok, here's an update on my continuing BS with Nero Support...

After waiting a ridiculously long time for an answer to my second e-mails (asking for the Nero program serial number, NOT the Lame MP3 serial number) they sent me the Lame MP3 serial number again!

This is incredible. They send me the MP3 plugin serial again after repeated e-mails telling them I need the PROGRAM SERIAL NUMBER for Nero 6 Ultra Edition.

Either these people are really stupid or they are really stupid.

So, more e-mails, and waiting....again.

Well considering the ultra edition will be more than the plugin, I doubt they will give you the serial. As I have something that might be useful for you though, remove the nero 6 you have on there, and download this below as this is the plugin you had before I think. If you had version 6 that is. Anyways heres the link, if this is the version you had then the serial you have will work on this.

You're welcome, and thank you for the help :) I already have that WMA plugin. It doesn't seem to make a difference, as I've entered the Lame serial number, but the program still operates as a Demo. I will try what you suggested by downloading it, uninstalling the program I have now, and then what do I do - just install the WMA plugin, not the actual program?

Thanks for the link, Freestone. I will add that to my "Music" folder in favorites. I want to get the program I paid for up and running (Nero 6). I plan to convert some LPs to CDs and I want to use Nero (and SoundTrax) to convert, burn, and clean them up. A lot of the tutorials I've researched on this have suggested using Nero for burning/converting/clean up of the LPs to CDs. I figure since I paid for it I might as well use it.

Thanks again for the link :)

Do you remember exactly what version it was that you were using? I understand you cant get it working and alot of these steps have been going around in circles lol. I think the reason the serial might not be working is because its a different version. My advice would be to call them though much faster response than email as emails can take 2 or 3 days or longer.

I think I said this somewhere above, but calling them is not an option since the b--tards charge $1 per minute for that. I had also asked if I should just start downloading all the versions on that page you linked me to (old versions.com or something) until I find the one that works, but no one responded.

Well you can give that a try, sometimes im multitasking on here so I apologize if I ask something already asked or say something stupid lol.

That's ok, EF. No biggie. I'm just not sure what I should do at this point, aside from waiting for Nero's Twilight Zone support to respond. I thought about trying the different versions, but I kept getting that warning message saying I was trying to rip off an illegal copy of Nero every time I installed one (I tried two versions).

Also, I still don't have the Nero serial key - all they sent me was the Lame MP3 plugin serial. They sent me that twice, even though I wrote them a dozen e-mails telling them I needed the Nero program serial that I paid for.

Unbelievable.....

Even though they charge $1 per minute, I can't imagine it would take very long for you to get the Serial over the phone. Also, if you point out that they screwed up twice and your patience ran out, it's possible they would refund your phone charge (at least that's what a reputable company should do).

cdogg, you really are Obi Wan :) I don't know where I saw that it was $1 per minute for the call, but I dug a little deeper into the Nero web site (after reading your post) and I found a Customer Support number (normal long distance charge for me). I called and got the guy to send the original e-mail for when I purchased the program. Now I have the serial numbers for both the program and the MP3 plugin and I have Nero 6 installed and running as a registered fully functional program once again. Happy happy joy joy

Thanks to everyone for your great help, and another star for cdogg :)
