Anyone using gigabit load balancers?

Hey guys,

I'm trying to find a good gigbit load balancer for a new colocation facility that I'm heading. We currently have AceDiretor2's in place but they seem to be our bottle neck. All our new servers a copper gigabit so I was hoping to get a load balancer which could handle that. It's either this or I go with software load balancing.

We looked at Nortel and Cisco load balancers but ended up using the F5 BigIP because of some SSL termination issues we saw in the other products. I'm happy with its features and flexibility but can not really speak about scalability since our bandwidth needs are not that great.

AS a note we are replacing our remaining BIP IP boxes with Alteons, thats how successful they have been, however it is horses for courses, we may use features you dont need such as ssl off loading.

We mainly use the Alteon 2424SSL`s, 24 10/100 Ports and 4 fibre gig ports.

However you have the following devices available

Alteon 2208
8 10/100 Ports + 2 Gig ports

Aleon 2216
16 10/100 Ports + 2 Gig Ports

Alteon 2424 SSL
24 10/100 + 4 gig ports + SSL OFF LOADING

Alteon 2424
24 10/100 + 4 gig ports

Alteon 3408
12 Gig ports only.

We're using F5 BigIP 3400s in production and 1500s in our test lab. If you deploy a set in your test lab be sure to tell them they are in a lab environment - they gave us a healthy discount for our non-production equipment.
