We are looking at using Terminal Services (and Citrix) to connect to a SQL based application. What I am wondering is how much resources are used on the client-side when connecting a SQL-based application.

If anyone has experience with this type of setup, I would appreicate their feedback.

Thanks.

It totally depends on how the client application was written. There is no way to give you a generic answer.

That is what I was afraid of. . .the seller has never tested their application in this way. . .so we don't know how it will affect our current config.

Thanks.

Actually, with Citrix Terminal Server, the application runs on the terminal server and not on the client. The purpose of using Terminal Server is to allow minimum configuration or thin clients to run applications without requiring all of the resources that the application would use if run on the client itself. Generally speaking, if the client workstation can run Terminal Server, and the application can run on terminal server, you should be able to run the application that way. Terry L. Broadbent - DBA

Thanks. I understand that. We are trying to estimate the amount of resources that the server will need when running many SQL app connections for the users. If the usage is heavy, then maybe it is better to run them from upgraded PCs??
