Forgive me for using XP pro on such a cheap MoBo but I figured I would give it a challenge and it passes with ease! Everything is overclocked to the floor and it doesn't miss a lick EXCEPT I apparently don't have the right driver for this audio system. I finaly got something from the win 2k drivers but it is obviously not right. I found them on a thread where Comtech was helping someone with a win 98 instal. To try to describe it, it is skippy, clicky and wavey!?! Please kick me in the right direction if you have a clue. THANKS, Bob

Update DirectX at the same time. It usually works, although the 8330 is "ancient" in computer terms.
Make sure it's NOT sharing any resources with anything else (printer, modem, NIC...). Cheers,
Jim

Thanks Comtech!

I sat down and gave it round # 2, Updated DirectX to 8.0 and tried to reinstal the 8330 2k/NT drivers but it still doesn't like'm !?! Seems usable on 8 bit stuff like windows sounds but MP3s are useless. Someone will figure it out as soon as XP reaches the masses. I think it's the smoothest windows yet, right down to the shadowed mouse pointer! Thanks again and I'll just keep my eyes open for something.

X-)

Which MP3 player are you using?
Have you looked for any updates for it?
Hint: The MS (windows media player) REALLY SUCKS!
Try Winamp (free), as probably the best MP3/CD player. Cheers,
Jim

well . . . It sure seems to be any audio from any format from any application in the PC. A streight PCM WAV file played by Cool Edit Pro sounds the same way. When XP installed, it upgraded my Windows Media Player to 6, I believe and I prefer the previous, boxy looking, less bloated version. Windows Media Player may not be my favorite but this audio is "broken", "somethin' be wrong!". Not a subjective "little lower in quality". I'll keep plundering as this is all to find out what all the XP excitement is about. Today it dug up an old AOL file from somewhere and decided to switch my networking guts around. Some aspects of Microsoft products remain the same! Thanks again.

I had the exact same problem. What you have is an IRQ conflict. My 8330 was set to irq 5. Changed it to IRQ 7 and the device that was on 7 changed to 5. You have to do this using the Manual Change setting. Reboot and VOILA...sound. BTW, use the Win2000 drivers from the C-Media site. They work fine. And don't forget to install the driver for the other 3 Sound Device settings. (joy stick, etc.) Hope this helps.

Hummm . . .
It had "CM8330 SB16 Driver (WDM)" on IRQ 5 and "C-Media CM8330 Audio Driver (WDM) on IRQ 7. I couldn't figure out the purpose for the SB16 driver so I first removed it and then just disabled it as XP was hellbent on having it. I moved the C-Media Driver to IRQ 10 as I suppose out of the 9 items that were, there this was the most likely to be "sound". Didn't seem to do anything different. I got the drivers from the C-Media site and they were 2000 but I tried several before them so maybe "some evil still lurks" from one of the dozens of attempts. At this point it is far beyond being worth it but it is the challenge! (challenge = waste of time) I'll keep plundering, if yours works I have some hope of hearing my MP3s again! THANKS, Bob

hi, I have the same problem. I have installed Windows XP >:-< and i can't find drivers for :

1)CM8330 SB16 Driver (wdm)
2)C-Media CM8330 Audio Driver (wdm)
3)CMI8330/C3D Audio adaptater

Please help !!!!

I'm also looking for drivers for XP for the CMI8330 - so far nothing on the cmedia website :(

hi i also have that same problem and it really pissed me off too. what i suggest to those people who are having problems with their cmi8330 is goto the c-media website ( and then download the win2k drivers...
then when installing choose to install them manually and 'have disk' the drivers manualy. and if winxp objects, press 'continue anyway'...no big deal...it only objects because it is not recognised by microsoft.
if that still dosn't work then it must be your IRQ settings.
hope this helped.

Hey guys, well i have a problem with the sound driver for my computer as well. all I hear is this clicking noise, as some of have. I tried downloading those files at the web sites given, but none of the Win Me or Win 2000 drivers work. Please, if someone has any hints, please reply. I don't understand the whole IRQ thing, but if any one has any suggestions, can you please give me precise steps to follow. Thanks

-Mitch

I am also having difficulty finding drivers for CM8330 SB16 and all other related files for use with WIN XP, my sound works but it is always 'crackly' and 'hissy'. If anyone can find a WIN XP deiver for the above mentioned sound device then please let me know.
