Has anyone taken the upgrade exam from MCDBA to MCITP SQL 2005 yet? I'm planning on taking it next week.

Hi MrDenny,

I just passed the 70-431 exam (Sql 2005) for the MCITP.

I had the feeling that if you have hands on pratice on the SQL 2005 server, you can pass the exam. On the contrary 290 and 291 were more focused on details.

Just my two cents.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Not yet dude. Working on MCTS now, hope to get the MCITP early next year.

I actually took and passed it a couple of days after I posted that message. MCITP dbdev is next on my list. Only one more for that one.

At this point I'm sort of colleting Microsoft certs.

MrDenny, for the MCTS, did you get many T-SQL questions?

I have bought the Sybex book for self study and I'm a bit suspicious about it's suitability. It seems to avoid T-SQL in a number of areas I find surprising. For example on the exam objective of creating tables, the book only uses the GUI method and not the good old CREATE TABLE method. I find this strange.

The Microsoft book on the other hand goes into imense detail
with T-SQL reminicent of SQL 2000 70-229. I'm beginning to think I'll use the Microsoft Book as my primary reference material for this one.

I would go with the Microsoft book. I've actually got no idea how many questions there are. I took the beta exam and I had like 90 questions I think. Of those, I'm not sure how many got cut.

I took the beta exam back in december (and I took 2 betas in 2 days) so I'm not sure how much T/SQL there was. The other beta that I took was a MCITP dbdev exam so it was probably mostly T/SQL.

OK no worries. I've already ditched the Sybex book in favour of the MS book. I spotted a few other things that made me uncomfortable with Sybex.
