MS Test Server Crashes - Aug. 4, 1999 1:43 PM

To test their new operating system for network security, Microsoft issued an open challenge to the hacking community. Hackers and testers barely got a chance to break Windows 2000's security system because the test server crashed soon after it was put online, and was down for 24 hours. Since then it has been down more than up.

To sort of rub dirt in MS's face, LinuxPPC ran a similar challenge, but they include a prize: if you crack it, you keep it: a PowerPC system with 160 MB RAM

They even gave away a few clues like the ROOT PASSWORD, and so far over 25,000 attempts have failed to hack in.

Gotta love it!

I have a cirrus logic graphics card if it's any use? which i will donate, I have a cd writer if anyone needs me to do copy's of stuff!!!

Well...looks like we're STARTING to pull together on this project; how 'bout we start a new thread to pool our ideas & possible contributions to see what we have to start out with...and how many are interested; then we'll be in a *much* better position to actually start considering the challenges head of us if we're to be successfull in this.
Also; when we do this we *really* SHOULD network all of the servers together in one room with a 100BTX line so we can pool the connectivity that we menage to scrounge up instead of having to put each server on a separate connection....also, using a cluster & a inter-server network that is partially separated from the i-net will make our project even yet more realistic for LAN/WAN testing.

As a seed; I'v started a thread "Realistic Challenge" for us to pool our ideas, votes/vetos, and resources to really get started on this thing........ "A job well started is already half done" not sure
I have 15 or 20 fast ether net pci 3c905b cards of which 3 or 4 can be donated to the cause. I am a new member to the forum and to linux. I have been working with SCO Xenix, Unix, and Open Server for the last 7 years. Enough is enough, time to make a move to linux.
