We are getting a rash of windows restarts in schools in Maine affecting all systems 98-XP. It appears to be like blaster ... but maybe a variant that can affect Win98? All are reporting that their anti-virus and MS security patches are up to date. We have a screenshot of the dialogue, but I do not think I can post a .jpg here, can I? Verbal description: It is a bright-red dialogue box with silver/gray trim that pops up saying "The computer will restart in [ ] seconds" with a long gray "cancel" button underneath. The [ ] is actually a small field box that will contain (randomly) the numbers 1-99. If you're sitting at the computer when it happens, you can actually cancel the restart. We're thinking is might also be a hacker sending RPC's to vulnerable random addresses in our state school system's intranetwork. Any ideas, comments, or clues would be appreciated. I can attach and send the jpg to anyone interested - email me: LBean@u47.k12.me.us

Hi,

If you can put the JPG on a public website you can link to it here - the syntax is

[ IMG URL=http ://www.website.com/dir/filename.jpg ]

Just remove the spaces from the URL.

I you have a firewall set up and its a good one then you should see a text box saying some1 is trying to enter. If not check msconfig for any programs that you dont know of. THis works on 98 and XP but not 2000 (as some1 pointed out for me :p)

Do you think I should by a monkey, it's cheaper and better than windows :p
