All of our VMS backups are done as FULL backups, even when
we choose INCR. The tapes are formatted properly, like
I-PAYROLL-WED, but every file continues to be backed up
every time. Thanks.

I don't know if VMS uses archive bits ?? If not you cannot use incremental/differential schemes.
With UNIX and Linux systems wdon't uses archive bits, with ARCserve you can use filters ( like all files changed in the last day or 2 days ) to achieve these kind of backups.

regards

I can't help you with Brightstor Arcserve on VMS but in our installation of VMS we do use the archive bit but we use the VMS backup application that is supplied with VMS.
If you do a dir/full on a file that has been backed up you can see the last backup date and time. I think that this is the last full backup but I can't be sure of that.
The other thing is that we backup to DLT tape using a tape device which is attached to our VAX system.
If VMS backup is an option for you then you may want to use it.

Run a Count job to verify the files have the Archive bit set.
Utilities/Count/Filter/File Attribute/Archive Bit

Under Options/Log/Log All Activity for a job log listing all the files.

The job log will then list all the files that should be backed up via an Incremental job.

Hi
I am agree with Cyklops VMS is like unix doesn't have Archive bit
and the only way to to utilize the filter to achive this.
