I'm using 8.6 with a library with 2 drives. I have about 15 systems split into two jobs. Each of these two jobs takes roughly 18 hours to complete a full backup.

One of backup clients is a database system and needs to be backed up within a certain time window. By default, BE runs through the systems in alphabetical order. Is there any way I can force the job to backup the database system first?

The only other option would be to create a seperate job, but I prefer not to do that.

TIA

Can't remember with 8.6, but in 9.1 you can set the order in which the servers are backed up.

-------------------------------

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

9.1 in the job setup there is a Resource ORder you can change which servers you want backed up in order

8.6 doesnt allow one to set the order in which the servers are backed up. you will either need to create a new job, live with what you have or upgrade to 9.xx or should i say ver 10.

Have you looked at document 192088 on the Veritas support site? You used to be able to turn off alphabetic sorting by changing a registry value.

* Registry Path (for Backup Exec 8.x/7.3): /HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Veritas/Backup Exec/Engine/Misc
* Value Name: "Sort BSD List" or "SortBSD" (the value name depends on the version of Backup Exec being used)
* Value (REG_DWORD): 0
