Hello,

I'm trying to allow the users of my report to pick and choose which fields they want to see in the report. I've got a parameter field from which they can select the fields to display, and I suppress any field whose name is not in the parameter value. The only problem is that I also have a chart that shows the distinct count of each field, and it is counting the suppressed fields (as 1). Is there any way to not count suppressed fields? Does anyone know of a different way I might go about this? I'm using CR 8.5.

Thanks for the help!

You say that you're counting fields in the chart, why don't you base the chart on formulas and change the fields in the formulas?

Thanks for the quick response! I think I've already tried what you're suggesting. I had a formula field for each report field that looked something like this: (if "report_field_name" in {?Param} then {ReportField}) This would set the formula field equal to the report field only if it was included in the parameter. But the chart summary operation was still counting the null string that would result if the field name wasn't in the parameter!

I think you're saying I could have a few formula fields with if or case statements maybe that could set them equal to whatever was in the parameter. But if the user wants to be able to chart ALL the fields, I'd have to have an equal number of formula fields, which leaves me open to having all 1s if they don't choose all. Do I have this right?
