Does anyone know of a utility that can scan through a working storage description and produce a total length from this. I have a number of COBOL source programs stored as text files on my desktop, and I was hoping to find something that would total up all the PICTURE clauses within a particular piece of w/s and then give me a total figure.

Thanks.

If they are IBM mainframe programs, compile them with MAP option (COBOL II or COBOL/390). This will give you the total size of Working Storage as well as lengths for all data structures.
