Going from 3300 icp 9.0.0.41 to MCD 4.0.

Is it just the same as a normal upgrade, or are there any snags to look out for? Ive been out of the Mitel game for a while, and I took the classes online to get certified to mcd 4.2 (which is where the customer wants to go next)

I just want to get anyones experiences or insight please.

Thanks

Is it clustered or standalone?
If it is standalone then it is fairly straight forward
Just use the Software Installer tool and you are away

If it is clustered you need to consider your teldir and any forms that you want to share as it is worth getting these right whilst on Rel 4.0 before proceeding to 4.2

Hardware type and Memory are very important.

Older chassis MX/LX cannot be upgraded at all.

Older CX's might only have 256Mg of RAM.

What chassis type do you have and what Memory.

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

Thanks, it is a standalone Mxe with 512M. I want to do a trial run with my own personal Mx controller. Is that chassis too outdated to upgrade?

Another question, would there be anything preventing an immediate upgrade to 4.2? Assuming I get 4.0 (10.0.3.30) in and running properly?

You cannot upgrade an MX to 4.0 as it does not have enough memory.

You can upgrade to rel 4.2 after upgrading to rel 4.0 and following the migration proceedure to migrade the DB to SDS mode.

The upgrade to 4.0 went very nicely. thanks.

where can I find something to read about the rest of the process?

try knowledge base.

The single biggest problem with communications is the illusion that it has taken place.

Start by reading release notes

Knowledge is power, thats why we share!

Thanks I have read through it and have a few more questions.

I see the command to do a database check before migrating the database, but I am not clear on how to actually migrate the database. Will it be a part of the upgrade software that will occur as I am running the upgrade software?

Also, The Application Record ID, I have a new record ID but I am not clear on how it does anything or what it does. The business support specialist has the mitel AMC account and created a new ARId, but under category, it just says "Mitel Generic Application" Should it be filled with new licenses and stuff, or does it just need a new number for the hell of it?

Thanks

do not use it
It will not allow you to upgrade without an application attached
You can continue to use your current ARID as long as software assurance is active you can upgrade to rel 4.2

As far as migration precheck run this anytime before you upgrade to make sure that you have names and numbers correct.
Did you say whether this was a clustered site or standalone?
If standalone it should be fairly easy you may find somethings in the speed call assignment or hunt groups which require naming.

Software assurance is active so I will try to use existing. I don't know how to migrate the DB though.

migration preckeck is through the maintainance commands

precheck lists tel dir inconsistancies and reminds you to correct them. Not a big issue unless you are networked and form sharing.

NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED!

no once you have done the migration precheck you then need to go to the SDS forms (or if SDS is off Go to system options and enable it) and use the migrate to to GDM which will migrate your database.

Once this has completed you can then proceed to upgrade to rel 4.2

Thanks, just got it going. After migrating, I used the existing ARID, and upgraded to 4.2. I set mytai/tapi to yes and networking to yes in the licensing and options form. Everything seems to be running smoothly.

nice one! glad you got it sorted :)
