Does anyone know of a good PIM to replace Sidekick 99. I would like to be able to read the Sidekick files without having to go through the export function. It seems Sidekick only exports the first line (before a RETURN) of a field.
I love the program and have been using it for years, but I need something that I can transfer information in and out of better.

Hi there,
I have not found any simple solution. I started using
Outlook '03 because I was afraid to put all my eggs into sidekick. It takes some warming up to, and it does offer contact management advantages such as follow up flags, and import & export compatibility with windows & other formats. The bad news: printing mailing labels is just a nightmare from hell. It still amazes me that no one has come out with such a simple, user friendly program like sidekick. Good luck!

Look at Time & Chaos. Not as good as SK, but the only one that has an all-on-one-page format. But it is up to date and supported. I decided to stick with SK98. Visit this site, where you might be able to find a solution to your export problem:

Some magazines here in the UK have been giving away trial versions of RedBox Organizer. This seems to reproduce the functionality of Sidekick, and they state that the registered version has a world time / daylight map function.
Not sure what import/export formats are available, though.

Dear MEdgar + All,
Yes I got it off the PCPlus DVD version and I have installed the free one and although the interface is a bit cluttered it does seem quite useful.
I might invest in a full copy and see what it is like so I will post back when I am more knowledgeable about it.

Further to that last post the Import formats are .csv or .txt for the cardfiles I am trying to imort 10,500 Sidekick cards but the user defined fields are very limited (15)

James33,

have you come to any further conclusions ref Redbox Organiser? Or Time & Chaos? Or anything else? There must be something out there better than Outlook.

Dear Ian,
Short answer No!
Tried a few but no nearer the holy grail....

While shopping at our local Comp*USA store I found a PIM which was selling for $19 with a $10 rebate. How can you turn such a deal down? If nothing else, the marketing for the product on the box was quite impressive. The front of the box opens up like a book and there follow SIX pages of descriptions of everything the product does. It looks very much like SK98/99 with almost everything being available on a single desktop. The desktop contents seem to be very well thought out. Plus full range of PDA connections. If the product is only half as good as its marketing would have you believe it's definitely worth a look.

Am busy trying to keep my sanity while installing a cable t.v.-based WiFi home network so probably will not get to try this product until the end of the year. Will report back.

The product is ANY TIME ORGANIZER put out by Individual Software.

I have started using the Palm Desktop that comes with any Palm device.
I was able to map over all of the fields and export all of the data from my Sidekick 99 into it. The contact information appears all on one column, like Sidekick. The contacts are all laid out in alphabetical order in a column next to them. It has been almost as good as Sidekick. It includes memo, calendar and tasks functions that I was also able to import from Sidekick. You can download it for free at:
Just pick a device. It should run without having a Palm device. It does Hotsync to a Palm device if you have one. I use mine with a Treo 650 phone. Works great.
