When every I boot up my Lenovo T410 (Win 7 64 bit) I hear a sound like the disconnecting/connecting network. I assume this is to do with the following errors I get: (I'm using Wireless with the Lenovo Access connections).

Description:
WLAN AutoConfig service has successfully stopped.

When I look in services at WLAN AutoConfig however the service seems to be running fine and my internet connection seems to work ok

I know its only a warning, and probably not causing more than a slight delay at login, so could be ignored but wondered if anybody had any suggestions what causes it and a possible solution as I'd like to resolve it if I could. Its the only warning I'm getting consistently in the admin events list

Ive searched the web, but the problem seems more acute on other peoples machines, losing them WiFI, as Ive said it only seems to result in a bit of a delay at startup in my case and WiFi seems to work fine and at reasonable speed. I tried setting it to manual but then it doesnt start at all, and dont seem to be able to set to delayed automatic which I though may resolve the issue

Thanks
Andy

I believe this is normal, Lenovo Access Connections doesn't use the "let windows configure your wireless" so the Microsoft Autoconfig isn't used. I think what you are seeing, is the Lenovo application turning off the Microsoft app, and using it's own to set the connections up. The Lenovo app also works with the LAN side of the network connections also, I use it all the time.

Thanks rclarke250, least I now know its normal on a Lenovo. Access Connections seems good so like you I use it rather than than Microsoft default.

I understand what you're saying but when I look in services after I'm connected the WLAN AutoConfig service is running and if I set it to manual rather than automatic so it doesn't automatically run at startup I don't get a wireless connection with Access connections on startup which suggests to me its being used by Access connections. If I turn it off later then I lose the connection too. Maybe I'm misunderstanding.

In the settings of the WLAN AutoConfig service it does have on first failure restart and judging from the sounds it sounds like that happens each time I boot up and then its fine.

Thanks for the advice though - there's that old saying if it works don't fix it, and if you say its normal if using Access connections then that's good to know

Many thanks
Andy

rclarke250, I wondered if you could clarify one other thing too about Lenovos? While looking at the services I noticed that the Turboboost service is set to manual and was not running. I have an i5 processor so wonder if this is right or should it be running (ie set to automatic). As I understnd Turboboost starts when required, so I'm not sure - maybe this is right? Could you clarify?

Thanks
Andy

I know on some machines there is a setting in the bios to turn on the advanced features of the cpu, and also it could be a product of the way the machine is set for power saver, or battery saver mode, and the different modes, when plugged in as opposed to when it's running off battery, and how to set the brightness of the screen, how long the hdd spins before spinning down, and how long or even if the cpu goes into performance mode, otherwise known as Turbo Boost. It just might be a setting is not allowing it to go into performance mode, because the mode by default is usually set to balanced, and it may turn off the turbo boost so to save battery power.

rclarke250, thanks, you are absolutely right. Apparently it depends on which power setting in Lenovo. Set it to performance and it enables it, set it to energy saving and its disabled. Its very useful to know as I'm a web developer, and occasionally Turboboost would be useful, but most of the time its probably better off, so now I know how to switch it on/off. Strangely enough there's no option for it in BIOS

Really appreciate the help you gave - many thanks
Andy

Limey, thanks for the advise, but unfortunately my warranty ran out last month so guess I can't use them. Must say the Lenovo's Ive had have been so reliable I never needed to contact them so dont know what they are like and whether they'd still be helpful. Hope they are better than HP support - had bad experiences with them
