We are going to be upgrading out SMS from Serivce Pack 2 to Service Pack 5 soon and my boss asked me do some reasearch. Specifially, are there any outstanding issues we should be aware of? I'm new to SMS so I'm not really sure exactly what we should expect. Any help you folks could give me would be appreciated!

As I understand it, we just have to run the SP update on the server with our primary site on it (we only have one site, btw) and the clients will be updated automatically.

If this is correct, I have some questions:

- will the client systems update all at once or does it take time as they all connect to the server individually?

- is there any way to force all the clients to update or schedule them for a specific time?

- while the clients are updating, can we still use SMS for Remote control of the client systems?

I could use any insights or advice that I can get.

Thanks in advance!

firstly i'm not that great on anything microsoft so listen to others as well

i recently upgraded my primary site to 5 (from sp4)- no pc's or anything else attached to this just secondary sites

only prob i noticed and this may be a one off but the install removed the rights from the sms directories and shares on this server - left the administrator bit but remove smssender group

client i'm not sure as havent done them yet - in deed i have tried to force an update on a site yet but will next week so will let you know then if it works or issues
