Is there any add on features for the Norstar system to track # of calls incoming, duration of calls, dropped calls etc.....
Help please...
Thank you in advance!!

You can hookup a SMDR6. It will allow you to hook up a printer or PC with call accounting software to track calls. It use one station port.

Good Luck!!

So executone do you mean that you can just hook up say a okidata printer and the SMDR will just track all calls. I have never hooked one up and was just wondering. Thanks

Hi executone, Can you please provide more detailed info or any websites which are helpful?

Dtone,

Yes, it sends the information after every call is completed. A okidata works great with tracker feed paper. If you use a PC with call accounting software, like TABS. You can manipulate the data. Just print one extension, a group, or a time period of calls.

kevinmiao,
I do not know of a web site, but it is a SMDR interface. It hooks up to a station pot and gives you a RS232 output to hookup to serial printer or PC.

This is how to program the SMDR-6 module :
Feature 9 * 2
Select Next
at Printer:
Select Change to change the output from 1200 to 2400,4800,9600,19200,38400,57600,or115200
or Select Next
At Format:
Select change to change the output from SL-1 to Norstar format
Or select Next
At Reoprts:
Select Change to change from All to Outgoing, Accounts, Or Long Distance.
Or select Next
At Language:
Select Change to change from English to French
Or select Next
At Access Codes:
Selcet Show to show Long distance carrier account codes that will be suppressed when reporting long distance calls.
Or select Next
At Feature #:
Note the feature code that would be used to identify a call with an account number.
Or select quit

The Printer is 8N1 and I don't see a place to change it in programming.

The report formats are basic for SL-1 either in the normal mode or CLID mode and fairly verbose in the Norstar mode.

Executone, Thanks for the Info. I learn so much here.

DTone,

Not a problem, that is why I love the phone busines.
I get to learn something new all the time.

Thank you very much for the replies. Just wondering is there any other cheap and simple solutions? for example some kind of units which can be added on the phone set to log calls.

I am currently using a Toshiba laptop for RAD communication with NRU. But I want to get a new Laptop. After searching best buys Non of the Laptops have serial port on them. help, what do we do for a serial port or do I order something special? Any help appreciated. Thanks

Kevin,
There are some rather basic features embedded in the N* KSU already. Call logging (DR5 +) and Call Duration Timer - F77.
These won't give you the kind of detail the SMDR that Dtone & executone spoke of they may get you going. There are several SMDR releases up to and above Rls 6. But (I think) only 5 and up read and print CLID.
SMDRs are not expensive and are effective.

Cheers

Thank you PhM! Does SMDR comes with any software which I can install on my laptop to collect data or I should buy some commercial software instead? thx!

Kevin,
SMDR doesn't come with computer software. There are bizilions of call accounting packages and terminal software programs that may suite your situation. From the software side, there are so many different things you can do with this if you use data bases that you will need to try several options. Some suggestions in the other posts above.

Hi Arr, call accounting packages are too much for me. I only need to log 5 stations and don't need any fee details. Can you please name some terminal software which I can transfer data from SMDR unit? I am really looking for cheap and simple solutions. Thx.

for something really really cheap, just use HyperTerminal with a session continually running in the background. Then you can view it to look at the raw call data. You can then inport it into Excel and build yourself a macro to massage the data to about any format you want.
