I work for a diamond & gold retailer in the diamond district of the Chicago loop. The only other people I've met who have ever even heard of Progress are my coworkers. Is the language obscure because it's an up and coming tool or is it just obscure because it fails to bear any resemblence to any other programming language on earth?
Are you from Chicago? It would be nice to know we're not alone over here?:)

There is a bunch of us, here in Montreal (Canada).

We thought that PROGRESS was big in the US, according to the peg (peg.com) site.

Anyways, there is some work around here in PROGRESS but the community ( developpers and companies requiring PROGRESS) is small.

If you want some company, :), go to peg.com (Progress Email Group, i think). You will find all kind of ressources there.
I was *almost* a Progress coder (in Chicago), about 2 1/2 years ago we evaluated the tool. It seemed ok, and we had heard the same as some of the other responses (that it was an 'up and coming' tool, etc). Apparently, 2 1/2 years later, it still hasn't taken hold. My opinion is that the license fees/agreements (specifically the per-end-user-workstation fee) is a deal-breaker. If they would get real about those fees, then it might be a more popular tool.
