There is a new computer. How do we ensure that antivirus has already been installed in the computer before it is connected to the network ?

Let say there is a network with 500 computer systems. Two computers are being attacked by virus. This virus try to attack other computers it can find in the network.

Next we have a computer that we want to install as BDC (consider that we are still in NT environment). We of course have to connect this computer to the network so that the PDC can be found. While doing so, antivirus is not installed and hence would there be possibility that this new computer would have been attacked by the virus even before antivirus has been installed ?

To check PC's on the network look in the control panel for add/remove programs. You should see Norton - Sophos - Mcafee or similar.
On a creating a BDC - thats a good'un - only thing I can think of is to run a scan when AV is installed.

The question is how can I installed the antivirus even before the pc is connected to network ?

The PC has to be connected to network first because I intend to run it as BDC. It has to see the PDC.

if the pc has a FAT32 file system you can run a nortan scan from dos. If you need to know how to do that let me know.

With the norton running from dos, do you think that I would be able to install Windows 2000 on it and not get alert messages detecting changes in the boot sector ?

How would the norton scan from dos solve my problem. Thanks for your information.
