Any experience with good antivirus programs to run on Samba on a RH Linux 9 machine?

The clients which will use the Samba service will be mainly WinXP Pro....

Does anyone has feedback about F-prot antivirus or other good antivirus?

Hi... A quick workaround...
Do the "Client" machines have an Anti-Virus program on them?
If so... map a drive to the SAMBA share and run the virus scanner on it.

Yes, but I would like a long term solution...

I use ClamAV without any problems. You can run it as a cron job, or do realtime via daemon. You should also set it to "freshclam" (download virus sig) as a cron to keep it up to date.

Thanks ErrorCode

but clamAV primary purpose is for mail server scanning.

I need a good AV for the samba file sharing. F-prot is about $399 for corporate users and is too expensive for my company. Any other suggestions...

I'm afraid.

I've go through the first 8 pages of results for Google with "antivirus for samba" (with the quotes) as initial search and all the results are directly involved with RAV antivirus.

But RAV cost $499.

Any cheaper solutions?

I use it for both. You can run it as a daemon and it will do real time scanning of files.

Take a peep at this one then .....

£223 Uk £

Though I would say that if your company cannot budget e£500.00 for virus protection then you probably don't need it!

Sorry but not everything in life is free (well not if you are expecting to make money from it).

Good Luck.
Laurie.

Thanks all,

I totally agree with u Laurie....
