glio,
There are many solutions out there which will do what you want. It all depends on how much time and money you have to spend. We use GWAVA (
with McAfee NetShield (
on our GroupWise server. Anti-virus protection has been good. We're very happy with this aspect of GWAVA. However, spam protection leaves a little to be desired. A heuristic engine is built into GWAVA for spam filtering. But, without a lot of tweaking, I've found it to be very inaccurate. False-positive rate was very high in our case. So, currently we just use a couple blacklists for spam filtering. It's not perfect, but it does filter quite a bit.
We're looking at upgrading to a stand-alone SMTP proxy called Barracuda (
This product has received rave reviews, some from members of this forum.
Another product to consider is Guinevere (
This product was recently purchased by the same company that makes GWAVA. So, you can look at both products on the same website.
The Messaging Architects makes a product called GWGuardian +AV (
I've not tried this product because it's a bit pricey when you figure that you need to purchase another server for it to run on, but it's the product that Novell uses to filter their email.
Finally, you could try SpamAssassin (
I've heard that it requires a lot of configuration to get it going, but it's free. However, you'll need to find a separate anti-virus solution if you go this route.
I started a thread a while back asking others what they use for spam filtering. Response has been pretty good. Check it out. thread12-749737
The above list is not fully inclusive. I'm sure there are more products out there. These are just the one's that I know about. Good luck.
