We have an answering machine connected to a Partner phone. It answers incoming calls when the phone's line appearances ring, but when a call is transferred to the extension the machine does not pick up. Do I have to do some programming to make that happen?

It may be because of the ring cadence of the transferred call - it's 3 short rings to the answering machine instead of one long ring like an incoming call. How about an Intercom call to the extension, which is 2 short rings? And of course, the phone must be idle at the time the call is being transferred...

Thanks - we decided the same thing, that the machine isn't recognizing the ring. Do you think a different answering machine may work? We haven't put many machines on Partner phones, but it seems that it ought to work...

Distinctive only affects single line stations, not multiline or combination extensions. A different answering machine may work. There were some fax machines that would not work on a station port as well.

No, this is a large grocery store chain and they don't use voice mail at any locations. Except for this one employee! :)

So, the answering machine is poor man's voicemail for Ext. 10? You could try the answering machine in its own extension port, not twinned with a Partner phone. See if it will answer when you call it, and see if Distinctive Ring makes any difference. If you get it answering when Intercommed, you could use Call Cover from 10 to the Answering Machine's extension number to still provide coverage for 10, and you could put line appearances on the answering machine's extension port to answer incoming calls on a delayed basis as well.

If all else fails, they could purchase a Partner Voice Messaging (small...only 4 mailboxes), and use it as a proper voicemail. The auto attendant does not need to be used.

My suggestion hinges on which Partner processor is being used. The PVM is compatible with most versions of the Partner ACS.
