6.1 software went bad on a CICS. After replacing with new SW I was testing their lines to make sure the answering machine on port 117 ATA would pick up and after 5 rings I got a fax tone.

I trouble shot it down to the CICS is causing this tone and I changed ATA settings from MODEM to TELEPHONE but didn't work. Am I missing something in programming?

I agree. Check the IRAD settings and make sure its not setup to answer the main line. Did you test it out on the other lines connected to the system or jsut the main one?

What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

They have 4 lines and lines 2,3,4 don't have a problem. Line 1 has the tone after 5 rings, I bet it is the IRAD. I'll look into it this weekend.
SD I don't know the SP version. How does it help to know this info?

Dave

SP versions allow you to know exact working issue of the software installed. There may be known issues in particular versions and working issues.
In the case of CICS, the SP also tells us what is enabled and disabled by default.

When that release first came out, I ran into the same issue on a few new sites. I still don't understand why Nortel would set the IRAD to answer line one as default.

Easy fix, though.

CURLYCORD was right "Some older CICS verions would have IRAD set to answer line 1 out of the box."

I changed IRAD ANSWER to none and got no tone!

THANKS ALL!!!!

That problem surfaced in 2002, right after they layed off over 50,000 of us. Not enough people left to test everything before it went out the door. They were testing the IRAD function and forgot to turn it back off before making a massive number of copies of that cart.

Not a good situation.
