hi guys
ok, reading license requirements and getting a little confused:)

customer has v5 with 18 ip phones and vcm32. he also has 1 phonemanager pro with softphone enabled license.

if he wants to upgrade to v8 does he need upgrade license (which gives a virtual essential licenses) and preferred license to use the new softphone? And in fact, will he have to get Teleworker/Power worker license too as the PMpro license will not work?

I know he will need ip endpoints to cover excess of 12 included with the vcm card, but I am thinking will he be better off going to v7 to use the softphone? becuase it won't need preferred?

we want to upgrade it because the old softphone didn't let you log onto your existing extension and was a pain to use...

And finally, if he logs onto existing extension using softphone, does he only need 1 ip endpoint license to cover logged on phone?

confused!

The upgrade licence gives you the virtual essential edition license.
The phone manager pro gives you office worker.
The softphone will be useless.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

so if i go to v7 instead makes no difference, although I could get the softphone working without the need for preferred by just getting teleworker/power worker license?

Yes, with 8.0 you will need preferred too.
7.0 does not need it.

Not quite true though. If you have a virtual essential licence, so either by upgrade licence or by 90 day window from R7, then user licences are valid without preferred, you only need preferred for user licences if you pay full price and go for the essential edition licence from new...crazy but true :)
