So...it's been awhile since our last "Naming"-fest.)

The Prize: Gift Certificate -- Dinner for Two at a nice restaurant local to the winner.

The Challenge: Submit names or themes that appropriately brand a new offering (ITSM) from our IT organization. Here is the (only) description that I have received, so far, regarding the offering:
Collateral said:
IT Service Management (ITSM) is a discipline for managing information technology (IT) systems that is focused on meeting customer needs at a level of quality they can afford. ITSM helps IT organizations meet user expectations by understanding and managing the complicated relationships among infrastructure components, including networks, applications, and databases.

ITSM will help us manage the services that we deliver and support for our customers. It will ensure that the future of our organization is built on best practice processes, supported by leading technology solutions that will be scalable for supporting the continued growth of the organization. It will help us do more with less.

ITSM will help us better meet our customer’s needs. Over the coming months, there will be training, workshops, service definition sessions, technology implementations, and process changes. Each of us will eventually be users of the new processes and systems.
The collateral that I have received refers to this offering as a discipline. I have e-mailed to appropriate managers, a request to determine if the organization also considers ITSM to be a "service", or a "product", or a "department", or a "standard", or a "manual", or a "methodology", or a "quality-assurance activity", or something else. As soon as I receive a response to my inquiry, I'll post it here to assist MAI-ers in creating their submissions.

Submission Deadline: Wednesday, March 10, 19:00 hrs.(Mountain Standard Time: UTC -7).

Winner-Selection Process: Our organization has an impartial judging board. If the judges select one of your MAI submissions, then you win the Gift Certificate I mentioned, above, and I will announce that Grand-Prize-winning selection here in this thread.

If the judging board does not select an MAI submission, then we MAI-ers will make our own recognitions for honorable mentions from our submissions in this thread. (But the gift certificate won't apply in that case.)

Keep in mind that the organization is very conservative/image conscious, so radical, fringy, or overly comical submissions (et cetera) won't work well with the judging board (but...We MAI-ers will certainly enjoy such submissions[2thumbsup]). So, to win the gift certificate, make submissions that the judging board will seriously consider.

If you need any clarifications, please post your inquiries here, and I'll try to get answers as soon as possible.

Have fun with this!

I'd say the word is already here: FOCUS

Sounds like something published by our Department of Redundancy Department, huh. Good catch, Strongm.

I just received the following response to my question of "What Is ITSM?":
Responder said:
ITSM is an "enabling framework" by which services and products are delivered. This includes processes, tools and people. Presently, our core enablement systems are point solutions, with minimal and immature integration. ITSM will transform the organization to a more mature level by implementing mature processes and tools, while managing the effect this will have on our people and culture.
I hope this helps (at least a little).

I can't believe what I got on the first try with an anagram generator.

I picked first letters of key words from the description.

Focus
Infrastructure
Networks
Applications
Needs
Customers
Expectations
Databases

Don't know if the Name FINANCED applies but honestly, first try, every letter (not in that order though)

Same letters also generate for humor.
Can Fend I
Decaf Inn
Acne Find
Can End If

Personally, I think there are too many "-ism's" in the world... now we have IT-ism... hehe...

Never mind... that joke sounded better in my head.

When I read "ITSM", my internal monologue said "IT-ism".... that's where my slightly obtuse humor kicked in.

ITSM sounds kinda kinky...

picture a Nerd/Geekette wearing spandex, holding a whip-o-ninetails made out of CAT5e cables, flogging himself while chanting "Linus Linus Bill Linus Linus Bill Bill"...

SCARY stuff...

now on the serious side:

I don't have a darn glue what that is supposed to be at all. I mean it sounds to me like a lot of hot air or another description for Services....

LIMIT - Less Is More Information Technology

But limit does have somewhat negative connotations too. Back to the drawing board methinks.

The internet - allowing those who don't know what they're talking about to have their say.

Consulting without playing the lottery" - because you're doing what consultants would do, but you're not consultants, you're definitely trustworthy, never have to hope you get a good one. (No offense to consultants anywhere!)

"Hands-off Technology". Which, I suppose, is HOT. If I were cleverer (haha), I may go for "HOT STUFF", but it may be overkill anyway.

"Hardware without the headache". (HaWTHEAD ? :D ).

In fact, maybe it's "IT Without The Headache!"

Sounds a lot like Continuous Improvement after the management-speak people decided to come up with a virtually meaningless, convoluted description.

I'd share what we call it here at my employer, but some genius probably has it copyrighted.

Soaring Eagle works for just about anything. It's got that underlying patriotic theme and if you change directions multiple times after you begin you really don't have to change the name.

Pah we win.

We were rebranded from MIS to IT Support...but not confuse? people we also kept part of the old name. We became....

wait for it....

SCHIT MIS.

Yes and it was all across the windows to our room (that apparently cost £500 to do), on our emails and on all internal documentation.

It took us about 2 seconds to notice, yet Martkeing / management didn't notice until we pointed it out.

kwb, Notice when you post a message, down toward the bottom of your screen, one of the clickable choices is [Emoticons/Smileys]. They are divided up in categories, as well.

Your homework here is to post another message with as many emoticons as you think we can handle. <grin> [2thumbsup]
