Hi folks,

I'm a newbie to HP-UX. We have v. 11.0.0 running on an old HP3000 K-series box (I think). And I need to ask a favor of any of you willing or able to answer what I hope is a simple question.

If the main console is locked and doesn't present a prompt, what are the steps to regain control of it and get a prompt? We usually run the root user on the console, but somehow it's sitting there without a prompt. I think there is a way to regain prompt control without shutting down the HP power, but I'm not sure. All processes, including Oracle, are running fine, but it's the console that's gone FUBAR on us.

They (management) threw me into a role of running and maintaining this box for a short period of time between other projects of mine, and of course I have zero training on this platform.

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions you can send my way! 8^)

Hmm, try killing the /usr/sbin/getty process ...

kill -HUP processid

Thanks for your reply Martin!

I posted this question on another forum hosted by HP, and got an answer there as well. Between your answer and the other one, I am now sitting pretty with full control of my console.

Thanks again - your help is greatly appreciated!!
