in SQL Server 2005

why is it I am constantly discovering annoying lack of features in 2005 - that is, things that used to work perfectly fine in 2000 suddenly have no functionality in 2005

take import, for instance - you can no longer import to an existing table... you get an error... so each time you import you have to drop the [stupid] table, over and over, as many times as it takes - for example, if you encounter any errors during the import, it still creates the table for you... even though the import didn't work correctly

i am getting really fed up with microsoft products... i must say... what used to take me 5 minutes to do is now becoming a whole afternoon project

The issue with importing into an existing table isnt a problem for me on sql2005. As for features Id say that SQL2005 is one of microsofts better products, and definately better than SQL2000. That said however, it can be frustrating at times to get certain stuff to work :p

Katgirl,

Actually, SQL Server 2000 has that same exact issue. As long as the code is good and everything can parse, The CREATE TABLE statement runs before the data is moved. The problem you're running into is that something is bad in the data, which is why it creates the table and then fails the rest.

If you post your errors, we can probably help you figure out the problem.

I finally got the import done - I have done this exact same import hundreds of time in 2000 - we often have to import data for our clients - but for some reason 2005 does not do it the same way.

I was just frustrated is all
