Another 470 question...

I would like to know if I can add a single 470-24T to an existing 450-24T stack and use the original 450-1SX MDA in the 450 for the fiber uplink while setting the 470-24T as the base unit to get the SSH feature...or does the fiber uplink have to be in the base unit??? I have 50 CER's that I would like to manage w/ only SSH and if I dont have to put a new SX GBIC in every new 470 I can save over $11K.

hello gillymonst,my understanding is the 470,s do not stack with 450,s .They stack with BPS (both voice ready), and use boss software.If anyone knows any different I would like to know.

The way I read it was that the 470-48T will not stack w/ the 450 but the 470-24T will...anyone?

There are three types of stacking for BayStack 460, 470 and BPS 2000:
• Pure stacks:
• BS470-48T only
• BS470-24T only
• BS460-24T only
• BPS 2000 only
Allied stacks (do not include BayStack 450 units):
• BS470-48T and BS 470-24T and BS 460 and BPS 2000
• BS470-48T and BS 470-24T and BS 460
• BS470-48T and BS 470-24T and BPS 2000
• BS470-48T and BS 460 and BPS 2000
• BS470-48T and BS 460
• BS460 and BPS 2000
• BS470-24T and BPS 2000
Mixed (hybrid) stacks (Include BS 450 units but not BS470-48T):
• BPS 2000 and BS 460 and BS470-24T and BS450
• BPS 2000 and BS450
• BS 450 and BS460
• BS470-24T and BS450

I just got a chance to test it and everything seems OK. I'm trunking in three vlans on the 450's fiber MDA in a hybrid stack using the 470 as the base. Just have to set it up for SSH management only and I should have a good working model. One thing...the 450's have to be @ least 4.2.0.22 and you can't interleave switches in the stack.
