Hey, I came across this link and was wondering if anyone used it. This link claims that you can visit any site (through them) and be anonumouse. How accurate is that claim? I mean wouldn't your IP address give you away?

It's quite interesting because if I have a site that logs the user's information (like ip address, server agent, time/date, etc) then how accurate would my capturing be if someone views my site from that link?

Just curous.

There are quite a few sites/services like this and they are basically just acting like a proxy server.

There is absolutley no way for you to catch the user's real IP server-side because it is not them requesting the page, the anonymous service is. All they do is parse the page and when you click a link, their server will request that and display the page to you.

Frame busting code will not prevent this, because they are not loading the site into a frame.

This is just one of the reasons that you never trust any variable that is sent to you from the client side. The only variables you should trust are the variables your server generates and stores there.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info. I always thought that was a gimmick that the site used to lure people to their site.

however, the server that that domains site resides on can easily and most likely does record your information.

imstillatwork, would the server of the domain still be able to capture the users' information, if anonymouse.org is the server that is actually requesting the information and displaying it for me?

what I mean is that anon.org has your information, and the information of all the sites you visited through them...and all the sites that you visited through anon.org has anon.org as their user agent - all marked with dates and times. It's more of a 'sense of security' than anything else. I just don't see a reason to browse the internet anonymousely.

I agree. But when I saw that site, it made me think about how websites that log each user's information would react when a user visits them from anon.org

I guess most people want to feel "safe" when browsing the web, and they get the false impression that anon.org is a safe way to surf the web.

Oh well, this was more of a "how does this work" thread then anything else. Anon.org must be making money if their still in business, lol.

you would probably need a lot of visits from anon.org in a sites logs to even be noticed. I have never even heard of it until now (but I don't get out much anymore.)
