I have read tons of Samba manuals and reference manuals but found no solution.

I have a small stand alone network (6 computers). Linux server with Samba and Windows 98 clients. As I can trust all users, I wish to enable shared folder without authentification of user. I mean no login name, no password reqired on accessing this folder. I do not want to add those users on Linux. I do not want to care what login name was used when logged on Win98.

Simply freely accessible folder without any restrictions and login requirements.

Is there any [global] option like “no password” or similar?

I understand this could be supposed as a security whole but this little network is not connected to internet or other network. Imagine a home network.

This sort of options in the [global] section may be OK for your goal:
force group = pc
force user = pcguest
security = share
null passwords = yes

Replace the group and user name to an existing linux account.

Hope This Helps, PH.
