Hi,

I want to protect my identity over the internet when i am surfing from my home internet connection. I know there are lots of free anonymous proxy list and tools are availble that can do this job for me, but I have tried that and I dont want it.

So here is what I want to do. My home pc has got a static IP and it can reach any IP in the world basically. So I want to install SQUID proxy for windows in it and then configure the squid properly. Then in my internet explorer i will give the IP and port of the configured proxy which is nothing but my computer itself.

So how do i keep my static (real) IP hidden. or in other words how can i anonymize my computer identity using Squid proxy.

Regards

You will not be able to hide your IP address from your own systems.
All data trafic must have a valid return address to send you the information you req. this will be your Public IP address regardless of whether your are connecting directly of Via you own Proxy sever.

the Anonymiser services available work because they will give thier Public IP addrss as the reply address & keep a table of which IP has requested which information (basicly they provide a NAT service)

Oh thanks for the information.
But the problem with those guys is that it works only for one day :) and then it goes missing.

Do you know any good site. I did Google for Free proxy but no avail.

Basically I am using Azureus a lot and dont want to tell the world that this guy is downloading GB's of content. I dont do any illegal stuff with it, I just use the games, moveis for my personal use. I dont even give that to my friends.

Hi Hi HI...

A Latin say reads like this:

..."excusatio non petita, accusatio manifesta..."

which translated means:

" not requested explanation is clear self accusation".

Just Kidding.
Anyway IPguru is right in saying that you will not succeed in hiding your IP address.

Most of the open proxies you find on the net are DSL users that have not secured their proxy properly and have been exposed. Obviously they get blocked relatively often as the owners find out, either from their bandwidth usage or by notification of the ISP.

LOL, thats because the admin has usually (and incompetently) allowed public access to their proxy. Strictly speaking, you shouldn't be using most proxies - I'm sure its illegal in some countries.

For free, legal anonymous browsing, check out :

With the 2nd & 3rd reply I am feeling that this post of mine has become funny.

I would be happy if this can get deleted. How can a request be posted to the Admin of the site who can help me with this.

Have to agree with sedj. If you are looking to do anonymous surfing and you are not happy with the anonymizers, then The Onion Router (TOR) is probably the solution for you. Used in conjunction with Privoxy, it is extremely difficult to hunt you down as the originator.

TorPark will allow you to test it out, it is definitely not fast, but you will have to give something up.

I understand that Tor is much faster without privoxy running, but you risk putting out some of your personalized information if you don't use it. It is trivial to put a javascript into a web page that asks for the IP address of the machine. Since that javascript will actually run on your machine (not the proxy) you will inadvertantly reveal your static IP.

Also, the whole point of Torrent software like Azureus is to give and take, not just to take. Your IP address needs to be known so that other Torrent users can download data from your client and make use of your upload bandwidth.
