Every time I log-in under Windows XP, I am prompted to dial-up to the internet to search for product upgrades. There must have been software installed with this option as a default but I can't find how to "shut-off" this continual annoying prompt. Help!

Let it hook up and find the update...if it doesn't reveal itself then drop to Command Prompt window and type netstat -an and record the ip addy of the remote hookup.
Then go to and search for the address holder...when you get it, you'll know what software to turn off automatic updates...
anyway that's what I'd do...

Go to control panel - Internet Options - Connections- make sure you haven't got the check mark by dial whenever a connection is not present. If you have the windows update program installed - go to add remove programs and remove it- however, you should first see if the above will stop it.

Why not just launch the Automatic Updates and then deselect the option that allows it to do its thing.. this effectively ends the annoying AU boxes popping up..
