Somehow, I opted to assign an audible "click" to each and every press of the left mouse button. It has long since become an annoyance and I regret to say that I have no idea how to neutralize the sound except by turning down my speaker volume. Can anyone please tell me how to zap this little cricket?

Go to Control Panel/Sounds, scroll down to Windows Explorer, highlight Start Navigation, click the arrow next to the Name box, select None, and click OK.

Thanks for your reply, Ski. However, I went to my XP Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices but could find no Windows Explorer/Start Navigation to set to None. :(

THis is the Win 98 forum - try the Win XP forum (forum779).

Thanks for your prompt reply. Since writing, I realized that I only heard the click when using my Wacom pen mouse. Voilá! I silenced that pesky cricket once and for all by changing the value of ClickSound in wacom.dat from 1 to 0. :-D
